ITALY, CASSACCO, CASTLE

A few kilometers from Udine, near to the Julian Prealps, is situated the Castle of Cassacco, an example of medieval architecture that has survived to the present day. Built around the year 1100 on the remains of a Romanesque tower from the 4th century AD. it also includes a small church of property built in the fifteenth century, full of charm and history, which is located just outside the city walls. Adjacent to the church, a green area owned by a wall is now used as a parking lot for events / guests.

Entering the gate of the property you find yourself in a beautiful garden with stone houses around and the imposing protective walls that guarantee total privacy and security.

The buildings once destined to prisons and warehouses, today are renovated houses and constitute a small village in front of the castle keep.

A stone bridge, which in the 15th century replaced the drawbridge, crosses the moat and leads to the entrance to the castle itself; here there is a porch with a stone floor that overlooks a park facing south-east, on this side the property is protected by a rocky overhang, which partly overlooks a land, which is not buildable. From the garden you enter the old cellar, the turret on the east side and the numerous rooms of the central body of the Castle.

From the top of the towers it is possible to admire the mountain range of the Julian Alps and in the best days also the coast of the Gulf of Trieste.

The conditions of the castle complex are more than good, over the years it has been adequately maintained with important consolidation works carried out directly by the Superintendency following the Friuli earthquake in 1976.
